Caspian/Native/If These Trees Could Talk/The Black Atlantic
When: Thu., March 21, 9 p.m. 2013
The Massachusetts-based post-rock staple Caspian is sure to bring an effects-laden, dynamic show to the Grog tonight. Last year’s Waking Season offers a sharp look at how far the band has come since forming in 2003. There’s a subdued quality to their recent music as the songwriting process has matured like fine wine. “With this record we became a little less self-conscious about what we’re doing,” guitarist Philip Jamieson says. Be sure to check out 2007’s full-length debut, The Four Trees. That album sums up much of what Caspian does best: ambient washes, thunderous walls of sound and crooning harmonics. “Moksha,” the opening track, will give you a sense of the range each musician brings to the table.
