Bohemian Treasure: Demantius’ “St. John Passion”

Design by Jerry Jezek Uploaded by Quire Cleveland
Quire performs music for the season of Lent by the 16th-century Bohemian composer Christoph Demantius, along with chorales by J.S. Bach.
As we enter the season of Lent, Quire Cleveland will showcase the glorious music of the Bohemian composer Christoph Demantius (1567-1643): a 17th-century setting of the Passion text paired with Demantius’ equally stunning companion piece using the prophet Isaiah’s writings on the suffering and death of the Messiah. Quire shares further messages of St. John in two motet settings by Demantius and rounds out the Passion story with complementary chorales from Bach’s St. John Passion. Admission to all performances is free. Seating is open, and no tickets or reservations are required. Masks are required for all attendees.
