The James Joyce novel Ulysses is an impenetrable work of literature that has stumped even the most astute of literary critics. Written as a stream of consciousness, it’s a dense novel that’s beautifully written but hard to follow. It’s a tradition at Nighttown (and elsewhere) that every year about this time, a group gathers to read the thing in its entirety and celebrate “Bloomsday,” a reference to an event that takes place in the novel. And according to the post on the Nighttown website, “all are invited including readers, writers, scholars and drunkards.” May the Guinness flow freely! (Jeff Niesel)
