BLOOD ON THE DANCE FLOOR

There's nothing remotely redeeming about Blood on the Dance Floor, and frontman Dahvie Vanity wouldn't have it any other way. Rebellion has always been a crucial element of popular music, going all the way back to when teenage girls swooned over Frank Sinatra and pissed off grownups. Vanity and his bandmates drum up tons of things that still manage to upset parents and worry teachers, like weird haircuts, gender confusion, lots of bad words, sex, violence, and silly stage names. So what if their music seems like an afterthought? Strip away the face paint, boy-toy sass, and rape-core lyrics, and you’re left with Pro-Tooled shells of songs, sounding all too often like someone is mashing the up-tempo button as an old Casio blips through its presets. As the Florida band matures, adding some new layers to its musical lexicon and relying less on the word “fuck,” it runs the risk of losing what made it appealing in the first place. So check them out while there's still a chance it’ll piss off Mom and Dad. With Brokencyde, Deuce, Polkadot Cadaver, William Control, the Bunny the Bear, New Years Day, and Hailey Rose. 6 p.m. Tickets: $18, $15 in advance. – Nicholas Hall
