Amigo the Devil/King Dude/Twin Temple

Ross Robinson (Korn, Slipknot, At the Drive In) produced Everything Is Fine, the latest album from dark folk rocker Amigo the Devil, aka singer-songwriter Danny Kiranos. Given Robison's heavy metal background, that might seem like a stretch. But Kiranos says Robison made for a good match. "I think Ross’ forte isn’t loudness," he says. "It’s getting people’s emotion out of them and getting the best performance of something from the person. The type of music doesn’t matter with his process. I wouldn’t say it was any different than any of the records he’s done besides the fact that there were different people working on it." The album features drummer Brad Wilk (Prophets of Rage, Audioslave, Rage Against the Machine) playing drums, and the group brings its headlining tour to town tonight. The disc opens with the sparse, Johnny Cash-like “Cocaine and Abel” and puts Kiranos’ baritone vocals up front on somber tunes such as “Preacher Feature.” "We worked at this fully analog old school studio," says Kiranos. "It was a crazy experience because we did everything straight to tape. It was more tedious and complicated process than anything I’ve done in the past. I had to perform and do well and not mess up. That was a whole new world for me." (Niesel)
