A Simple Story

The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque will screen The Selfish Giant tonight at 9 and tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. It is, among other things, one of the most favorably reviewed films of 2013 (96% Fresh Reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, what what!) It also hails from the United Kingdom, which means British accents. It won all sorts of Indie Awards in England due to some stellar performances — it centers on two thirteen-year-olds who get expelled from school and go to work for a “disreputable” scrap dealer. It’s simple and lovely, but really kicks you in your ass when you least expect it. Tickets are $9. (Allard)
