A Lavish Production

In the 2012 Dutch film The Girl and Death, a Russian doctor (Leonid Bichevin) falls in love with a courtesan (Sylvia Hoeks) whom he meets at an abandoned German hotel. The trouble is, she’s the property of the count (Dieter Hallervorden) who owns the hotel. Set in the 18th century, the film by director Jos Stelling (The Pointsman, The Illusionist) is a lavish production that won the Best Film award at the Netherlands Film Festival. It makes its Cleveland debut today at 3:45 p.m. at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. Tickets are $9. (Niesel)
