Canawlers, quarrymen, and assorted burly dudes once labored in the woods and fields surrounding Deep Lock Quarry in Peninsula. Today, the gals have the place all to themselves. It’s part of the ongoing series of “women only” hikes sponsored by Summit Metroparks: easy outings designed to provide exercise, companionship, and — admit it — time for girl talk among the fairer sex. Today’s fresh-air stroll begins at 10 a.m. under the leadership of naturalist Danette Rushboldt. The rain-or-shine ramble will cover 1.2 miles of the bucolic Quarry Trail where you’ll find birds, spring flowers, and even a few millstones once destined for Akron’s American Cereal Works. It’s free. For more information, give a call to the number below.
