When he was alive and making music in the ’70s, singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson was taken for granted by pretty much everyone who heard him. He had some hits (“Everybody’s Talkin’” and “Without You” are the two biggest) and paled around with John Lennon during the ex-Beatle’s separation from Yoko. But most music fans didn’t care to dig deeper. Their loss. Nilsson Schmilsson (from 1971) is a flawless record, fueled by pop smarts and sharp hooks. Nilsson was also a notorious boozer, which contributed to his death in 1994, when he was only 52. This insightful documentary looks at his legacy, with commentary by Yoko Ono, Randy Newman, Robin Williams, and many others. They all loved him. You will too.
